ARTICLES DISCUSSED IN THIS EPISODE:
Chase Iron Eyes Legal Defense Filing
In its landmark defense of Chase Iron Eyes, the Lakota People’s Law Project legal team compiled thousands of pages of documentation during trial preparation. This documentation demonstrates that Dakota Access pipeline parent company Energy Transfer Partners and mercenary security firm TigerSwan violated the civil liberties the people of Standing Rock are granted under the Federal Civil Rights Act. It also shows that the pipeline posed an existential threat to the tribe by jeopardizing its primary source of fresh drinking water. The defense team has released 160 pages of documentation to ensure evidence in this case is protected and accessible in the public record so people know the truth about what really happened at Standing Rock.
**MAIN CONTENT DISCUSSED**
Part of what is so frustrating about Kinder Morgan is that they are pretty much hypocrits. On thier own website, they publish what they call their “Indigenous Peoples Policy”. Why then, if they went through the trouble of writing a policy that professes to wish to “partner” with Indigenous peoples, (aka tribes) and have good relationships with them, do they fight and ignore consultation on so many of these pipeline projects?
MUSIC PRESENTED IN THIS EPISODE:
Artist: Jonah Littlesunday
Our music this week features Native American flutist Jonah Littlesunday who played flute at United States Senator, John McCain’s funeral this week. Despite having severe stage fright, he wanted to bring a little calming to the McCain family this week. There was a large native American presence during the Arizona funeral ceremony this week, of who Senator McCain represented.
Kutupitush! (Thank You!) for listening!
